Performance Management
Unlike managing in a results focused system, process focus implies frequent measurement against expected intermediate outcomes, and, as necessary, intervention can be started before the end results are affected. Lean management is also about focusing on developing an empowered, flexible workforce so employees are actively engaged in continuous improvement, both of the processes and their skills.
To create an engaged workforce, leaders use a partnership approach to managing performance. Rather than using a ‘command and control’ style and getting compliance, effective leaders involve employees in setting goals and gain agreement around clear expectations.
This module on Performance Management focuses on tools and strategies for Front Line Leaders to delegate and manage performance in a way that builds accountability. For leaders without formal authority or direct reports, these skills are just as useful in peer relationships - working with colleagues, suppliers and customers.
Learning Outcomes for this module:
Ø Understand managing performance in a Continuous Improvement Environment;
Ø Articulate job purpose and clear performance expectations;
Ø Apply tools to delegate tasks and empower employees;
Ø Communicate effectively when giving others responsibility and assessing performance; and,
Ø Apply techniques to assess performance, analyze root cause, address gaps in performance.
