        Leader
       Employee
      Example
   1 Directive
    Give a direct command.
    Listen carefully.
   Employee reports. Leader decides and gives direction.
   2 Input
  Listen to input from team member. Make clear decision.
 Voice opinions at the time.
 Employee researches, identifies the alternatives; suggests one for implementation. Leader makes the decision and gives go ahead.
   3 Dialogue
     Listen and discuss team member’s input. Make decision.
   Active participation, voice opinions, support decision.
   Employee researches; reports intended actions. Leader provides guidance and gives approval.
   4 Limited Authority
       Listen and discuss suggestions. Let them decide.
      Active participation, voice intentions, act in the absence of a decision.
     Employee researches; reports intended actions and proceeds unless leader says “no”.
   5 Collaboration
  Participate in and acknowledge consensual process.
 Work on outcome until it feels right. Embrace the decision.
 Employee researches; takes action; reports action. Leader offers support.
   6 Delegate
       Describe the outcomes and criteria for decisions. Embrace the decision.
      Take initiative and accept responsibility for decision- making process.
     Employee researches; takes action; communicates outcomes to leader.
