PURPOSE
The BCSA Outstanding Herding Dog of the Year program has been established to further the BCSA’s goals, in accordance with its mission statement and philosophy, to
promote a rigorous herding program, and to issue awards and titles to deserving dogs. The BCSA herding Committee shall administer the annual BCSA Outstanding herding
Dog of the Year program, also named throughout these guidelines as: “OHD,” “the OHD,” “program,” and/or “the program.”
BCSA OUTSTANDING HERDING DOG OF THE YEAR
The program year shall be from January 1 through and including December 31.
PROGRAM COMPETITION POINTS
The program shall be comprised of various AKC sanctioned A Course, B Course and D Course herding competitions that are regularly held throughout the program year. The
primary owner of the dog must be a BCSA member in good standing at the time program points are earned at the sanctioned AKC herding competition. All points are earned
by the dog and are fully transferable to another BCSA primary owner in good standing, during a competition year.
PROGRAM POINTS CALCULATIONS
In AKC sanctioned A, B and D Course Herding Trials (Sheep/Goats), Cattle, and Ducks (Geese/Turkeys), a competing dog shall earn one (1) point for each dog defeated in any

designated class in which said competing dog places 1 through 5 . Examples of event point calculations are as follows: In a series trial of 10 dogs in competition, the first-
place dog shall earn 9 points, the second-place dog shall earn 8 points, the third-place dog shall earn 7 points, the fourth-place dog shall earn 6 points, and the fifth-place
dog shall earn 5 points. In a series trial of 3 dogs in competition, the first-place dog shall earn 2 points, the second-place dog shall earn 1 point, the third-place dog shall earn
0 points.
In calculating the total program points, dogs may accumulate points from their (7) seven highest points earning trials during a competition year.
RECOGNITION AND AWARDS
The high points earners shall be announced at the conclusion of each program year and shall be duly recognized. Awards and / or prizes shall be distributed annually, as
determined by the Herding Trial Committee. Champions, Reserve Champions, and the top 10 of all classes shall be recorded and published on the BCSA website and in
Borderlines or a special edition of Borderlines.
