NTotes From Rabbi Dunsker
hank you, thank you, Congregation Kol Ami, for your great support of my family. As many of you know, your own child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah is always a wild ride, and for sure
ours was too. Watching my son become Bar Mitzvah was very moving, but having it happen as part of this community made it even better. Thank you for the love you showed us and for all the support. We all really appreciated it.
As well, thank you for the support of Zachary’s project. We raised almost $600 from the sale of his T-shirts to support our congregation’s participation in the PDX pride parade with the extra money going toward general support of PDX Pride. We had about 40 members of our congregation marching in the parade, and it was great fun. There was a long wait before we got started (which definitely took away some of our pre-parade excitement), but once we got started it was really wonderful to be a part of this important event.
We are a community who supports the equality of all people, our movement of Reform Judaism has always been at the forefront of religious organizations to speak out in support and love of the LGBTQ community. It was a great affirmation to feel all the love that was present at the march. If you have never been to the pride parade, you should definitely march with us next year, or at least come to see what the parade is all about. It is just about love, acceptance, self-acceptance, community acceptance, and affirmation of the full humanity of everyone. It was a really feel-good day.
So thank you Congregation Kol Ami for loving and supporting my family and our family of human beings, reaffirming and celebrating the sacredness of each one of us, and supporting all people.
