KAWRJ Year-End Member Meeting & Dinner Recap
On June 14th we had a most enjoyable general meeting attended by over 30 members of Kol Ami Women of Reform Judaism. Debbie R. served a fun drink for the evening: Gin Gin Mules. With or without gin, the combination of ginger, mint and lemon was most refreshing. The board hosted a baked potato and salad bar, followed by dessert of cookies purchased from Rachel C., in support of her Bat Mitzvah project building awareness of and donating to “Battle Buddies,” an organization that supplies dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD.
With a quick slide show, we reviewed highlights of this past year and then we approved the 2017-18 budget, and elected a new board (see box on upper right).
As the outgoing president, I want to give a personal thank you everyone who has served on the board during my tenure, with special recognition for two board members who are stepping down after multiple years of service: Lauren L. and Shari K-S. It has been an honor to serve as WRJ president over the past three years. I am most grateful to every person who has “stepped up” to help assure sisterhood thrives at CKA. Heartiest congratulations to newly elected president, Carol S., as well as incoming KAWRJ board members, Diane A. and Teresa L. Thank you all, Deawn H.

June Sunday Social
Our last 2nd Sunday Social of the year was a walk along the riverfront followed by brunch at Beaches restaurant. Despite it being a cool and overcast day, it was a delightful way to spend a Sunday morning.
One Book One Read Recap
At One Book One Read, we delved into the life of King David in “The Secret Chord” by Geraldine Brooks. Fueled by a delicious middle-eastern dinner, we had a lively discussion of the character of King David, the prophet Natan, and the parallels with some of our modern leaders.
