If we want to increase the water level opening the clogged tap by
heating the pipe and scrubbing the outlet to remove accumulations
are good ideas. This idea applied to eyes is why warm compresses and
lid scrubs are recommended. The warm compress with water, tea, or
with warm goggles opens the meibomian and mucin glands. Lid
scrubs done with towelettes or foam remove the cells blocking the
free drainage of the above mentioned glands. These lid scrub options
are more user friendly compared to previously used baby shampoo.
In cases with inflammation affecting lacrimal and accessory glands
an anticancer drug cyclosporine has been found to be helpful. By
decreasing the inflammatory and suppressor cells, it helps increase
the tear production. It needs three to six months to fully display its
effects. Finally in extreme cases like Sjogrens syndrome, autologous
serum is employed. This is produced by centrifuging the blood,
disposing the cells and keeping the clear liquid which is instilled.

We can add external fresh water to the basin in our example.
Likewise artificial tears with and without preservatives are available.
Preservative free artificial tears are better. For bedtime use a
lubricating ointment is available. This is especially useful for patients
