Members from the Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) recently attended the Texas Association of Builders (TAB) Fall Board of Directors meetings in Bastrop. The focus of the meeting was on the upcoming 89th Legislative Session that will kick off in January 2025.
One of the most important events that we host is our statewide Rally Day during every Legislative Session. All twenty-eight local builder’s associations from across the state come to Austin to meet with our elected officials in the HouseofRepresentativesandtheSenate. Ourelectedofficialsinthegreater San Antonio area want to see their constituents and hear from you personally on critical issues facing the residential construction, development and remodeling industries.
TAB and the Government Relations Committee (GRC) discussed several key issues during the meetings. The Government Relations Committee has representatives from across the state including Builders, Developers, Remodelers andAssociatemembers. Theissuesdiscussedareoutlinedbelowandasof press time, over 1,500 bills have been filed for the next session, some of them dealing with the issues below that affect our businesses and our bottom lines.
• Impact Fees
• Development/Development Agreements focusing on involuntary annexation
• Minimum Lot Sizes
• Building Moratoriums
• Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) Issues including releasing properties fromtheETJ
• Institutional Investors/Owners
• Foreign Owners
• Building Permits
• State Energy Code
• Water/Wastewater and CCN’s
• Expansion of County Authority
• Product Mandates
GSABA will rent a luxury bus (with a bathroom) to drive our members to this importanteventinAustin. ThebuswillleaveGSABAat8:00amsharponTuesday, February11thandreturnnolaterthan7:30pmthatsameday. Breakfasttacos, coffee and juice will be served on the ride to Austin.
We will break up into teams to meet with our 20+ elected officials and host a plated luncheon at noon at the DoubleTree Hotel, just across the street from the Capitol. We have invited our House and Senate members to join us for lunch and speak too.

January will be full of great events! The Housing Forecast will be held at the JW Marriott Resort in San Antonio on Wednesday, January 8th with networking from 7:30 am to 8:30 am with a full buffet breakfast. Mayor Nirenberg will kick off the Forecast at 8:30am followed by Dr. Robert Dietz with NAHB and Bryan Glasshagel with Zonda. Registration is open so purchase your tickets and tables now!
The 4th Annual BBQ will be held on Friday, January 10th and Saturday, January 11th in Helotes at the Fairgrounds, sponsorships are available. We invite you to enter the BBQ competition or the Washer tournament, this is a friendly family event.
