Palm Bay Elementary
Nearly 20 third and fourth grade students at Titusville’s Imperial Estates Elementary spent two weeks this summer at a STEM camp at the school. The project was
the brainchild of sixth grade math and social studies teacher, Olga Kohlscheen. “I like to teach kids using hands-on ac vi es,” she said.
Camp projects included energy ac vi es, circuits, reverse engineering, and buoyancy.
Students learned to build structures using inven ve and crea ve thinking. “The gum drops and toothpicks project was a challenge for the students,” Kohlscheen explained. “The base had to be strong enough to hold a pre y thick book.
Palm Bay Elementary was recognized last month at a March of Dimes luncheon. The school was one of the top three school teams in the 2017 March for Babies event, raising just under $1,000 for the cause.
