Así ocurrió y el 2 de octubre, a la vista del éxito obtenido, se anunció ya la apertu- ra o cial del hotel para el sábado 12 de octubre, indicando que el rey y la reina honrarían el acto con su presencia. Debió de haber alguna dis- culpa de la Casa Real, pues el día 10, el anuncio del Palace Hotel no hacía ninguna referencia a la presencia de los reyes, muy apenados por la muerte de la infanta.
Todo estaba listo para la apertura. Algunos pe- riodistas madrileños que fueron invitados a reco- rrer las instalaciones aseguraron en sus crónicas que era el «más confortable del mundo» y lo cali- caban de «un auténtico monumento del que se enorgullecerá la capital de España».
Durante los primeros días de octubre, el hotel siguió recibiendo clientes y comenzó a organizar las primeras recepciones. El día 10 de octubre, la prensa se hizo eco del banquete ofrecido por el mi- nistro de Cuba a los representantes de los restan- tes estados americanos y al Gobierno español, pre- sidido por José Canalejas. Al día siguiente y con motivo de la inminente inauguración, los miem- bros del consejo de administración obsequiaron con un banquete a su presidente Georges Marquet, y también invitaron a la prensa. «El menú fue es- pléndido, digno de la fama de que goza la cocina de este hotel», decía El Heraldo de Madrid.

This is what occurred and on October 2nd, in view of the success of the event, the o cial inauguration of the hotel was announced for Saturday, October 12th, with mention that the king and queen would honour the act with their presence. Some excuse must have been made by the Royal House, how- ever, because on the 10th, the announcement of the Palace Hotel made no reference to the pres- ence of the monarchs, who were much grieved by the death of the Infanta.
Everything was ready for the opening. Some Madrid journalists who were invited to tour the facilities reported in their articles that it was ‘the most comfortable in the world’ and termed it as being ‘an authentic turning point that will make the capital of Spain proud.’
During the rst days of October, the hotel con- tinued receiving clients and began organizing the rst receptions. On October 10th, the press reported on the banquet o ered by the minister of Cuba to the representatives of the rest of the American states and the Spanish government, presided over by José Canalejas. The next day and on the occasion of the imminent inaugura- tion, the members of the hotel’s management staged a banquet in honour of their president, Georges Marquet, with the press also invited. ‘The menu was splendid, doing honour to the fame enjoyed by the cuisine at this hotel’, stated El Heraldo de Madrid.
