rose again in October and then dropped during the winter, which was a very slow season.
This rhythm was maintained during those
years, although the hotel’s management became concerned when they began to notice a slight decrease in the number of clients. The improve- ments made to the hotel, such as the installation of air conditioning, or the change of decoration, were not enough to stop a good number of clients from preferring to lodge in one of the capital’s new hotels. It was during the 1960s that hotels such as the Melia Madrid, Wellington, Castella- na and Eurobuilding opened with modern and functional installations at a time when what was classical seemed to be equivalent to the old and uncomfortable. This period coincided with a new change in ownership: whereas Georges had been replaced by his son Georges Marquet Huens, upon the latter’s death, he was in turn succeeded by his widow, Tamara Delina, who took over the hotels. The history of the Palace continued on into the future.
