I will practice a patient-centered approach to medical care.
Help me to know my limitations as a healer and to not infringe upon my patients unalienable rights. Guide me as I encounter difficult ethical situations, especially where my personal ethical views clash with my patient’s views.
I will make sure to practice an appropriate level of self-care so I may be mentally, physically, and spiritually able to provide the highest quality care.
Show me a path that will allow me to effectively advocate for patient rights, healthcare reform, and resource inequity.
I will not accept improper compensation from pharmaceutical or medical device companies and will only advocate for new treatments if there has been a enough evidenced-based practices to support their use.
I will never forget the simple healing power listening and touch can have on patient care.
May I continue in a life-long pursuit of knowledge so I may be equipped to treat my patients as medical guidelines and society change over time.
I will consider how the social determinants of health impact my patients and will do everything in my power to ensure my patient’s individual needs are met.
I will not deny anyone an opportunity to receive medical care on the basis of their inability to pay.
I will treat everyone I work with, from social workers and nurses to attending senior physicians, with an equal amount of respect.
