As a member of the medical profession:
I pledge to dedicate my life to the service of humanity
I will apply my knowledge and skill of medicine to heal my patients
I will put patient primacy first and will do no harm to my patients
I will respect my patient’s autonomy and decisions regarding healthcare
I will prevent disease whenever I can because prevention is favored over treating
I will use compassion and empathy to develop a meaningful relationship with my patients
I will not let race, ethnicity, age, gender, disease, disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation, social standing or any other factor intervene between my duty and my patient
I will respect the secrets confined to me by my patients, even after they have passed away
I will take care of my own health, well being, and abilities to give the highest standard of care to my patients
I will strive for social justice to allow equal access of medical resources to my patients
I will always act in the patient’s best interest and not let my own self interests interfere in the quality of healthcare I give to my patients
I will remember to always treat the patient and not the disease
I will honor the traditions of the medical profession
I will share my knowledge to others in order to enhance the field of medicine and healthcare
I will maintain the utmost respect and dignity for my patients
May I strive to uphold these promises and live a prosperous life benefiting society and serving humanity through medicine
