these powers to his son Jesus with the intentions of providing love and power to the poor and less fortunate

through him. Jesus was the caregiver of the less fortunate, with the goal to help the outcasts of society. Jesus’

goal was to ultimately help those suffering in both body and mind. It is interesting to see that the correlation

between a healthy mind and body dates back to the times of Jesus Christ as well. According to these recounts

in the Bible, Jesus didn’t only heal the people of their physical ailments, but he also provided people with

spiritual healing, offering them the good news, that God is forgiving and will help you on your path of being

                                                               6
holy and just to ultimately live a life with him in heaven. With this, Jesus was also thought to have been the
one who created the Sacraments of Christian Initiation, the Sacraments of Healing, and the Sacraments at the

Service of Communion and Mission. These sacraments ultimately become a very important part of a

Catholic's life, providing them with a basis for how their lives should be conducted, providing them with a

sense of structure. A major portion of this devotion to God revolves around prayer and worship at Sunday

Mass, a time for Catholics to give thanks to God and offer their lives to Him. The Sacrament of Anointing of

the Sick is an event that only occurs when you are very ill. This is often a procedure if you are about to go into

surgery. This is often a precaution if there is a risk of death in surgery, and you will also sometimes be offered

the Sacrament of Confession. Catholicism provides comfort to those, even if they’re acknowledging that death

is imminent, they are comforted by the fact that they have better chances of passing into their next life

        walking through heaven’s gates. 11

        THE BENEFITS OF PRAYER

Often the most influential ritual is prayer. Prayer itself “is the practice of connection to something

deeper and more meaningful in life”. An interpretation of this is that the thing that we are connecting to that is

more meaningful is ultimately God or Jesus. Prayer itself can heal or help a person in more than one way.

When you pray this often infers that you are conversing with a supreme being. Conducting this ritual of prayer

may result in you experiencing the two dimensions of prayer. The internal and external dimensions often

summarize the effect of prayer in simple terminology. Within the internal dimension, you experience self-
