                                                            Crocodile cracks





                                                                  This is a common type of failure of flexible
                                                                   pavements. This is also known as fatigue failure.

                                                                   Crocodile cracks are interconnected or interlaced
                                                                   cracks which form a network of multi-sided blocks
                                                                   resembling the skin of crocodile.
                                                                  Block size can range from 100mm to 300mm.

                                                                  Causes
                                                                       Excessive loading

                                                                       Weak surface, base, or subgrade
                                                                       Thin surface or base

                                                                       Poor drainage
                                                                  Cures

                                                                       Remove and replace
                                                                       Mill and overlay
