Women Roles for Healthy Lifestyles through Good
Foods

In Indonesia or patriarchal societies women play important roles for domestic work,
especially cooking. Food as the basic need for human being is still deceiving. Cooking
and eating practices do not consider healthy diet that is essential for good health
and nutrition. Lack of awareness of good food for health and happiness results in the
government campaign of “Healthy Lifestyle (Gerakan Hidup Sehat) or let food be thy
medicine. This research will describe and analyze women preferences in choosing
menu and preparation, their perception of good food, as well knowledge of healthy
lifestyle. This qualitative research will collect data from online survey, in-depth
interviews, and communication through whatsapp and emails. Sixty participants
representative of 15 career women, 15 working women, 15 housewife women, and 15
female students/graduates. Finding reveals there is a good possibility that
preferences of foods are appetite, availability, and even prestige. Junk foods (fried
chicken, French fries, nugget, sausage, and any other unhealthy stuffs) instead of fiber
rich foods are favorite. Women can play significant roles to deconstruct this
misleading beliefs and practices of eating habit. Government program for better
generation through good food should be socialized and supported
