This year everything
is different...
yet the 2020 Artstart Summer Pogram for teen art apprentices will go on, maybe better than ever, and including considerable safety precautions.
The new location features a large, airy warehouse and plentiful outdoor spaces which will allow smaller groups to work in a social distancing environment. Every precaution for safety has been addressed. Some projects will even be assigned to be completed at home.
Artstart is now accepting applications for the Apprenticeship Program for aspiring artists between the ages of 14 and 20 years of age.
Along with new projects and multiple artistic disciplines we teach repair and maintenance of existing public art projects.
This year the program will run two 4-week sessions, one for the month of July, the other in August, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm.
Artstart is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization, with the mission “to provide job training, mentoring and stimulating work experience for youth, while creating publicly and privately commissioned artwork for our community”.
The apprenticeships and services provided via Artstart would not be possible without public and private art commissions as well as individual and corporate donations.
By contributing to and selecting Artstart
for commissions, individuals, businesses, and corporations are helping to expand professional on-the-job arts training opportunities --- a rarity --- for young artists.
This year Artstart is seeking multiple donations of $300 to sponsor each of the 10 apprentices.
For nformation on how to support Artstart, please visit www.artstart.us, email us at info@ artstart.us, or call 707-546-2345.
Due to the unusual circumstances of Covid-19, note that all dates and services are subject to change. This is the 21st consecutive year that Artstart
will award financial compensation to aspiring young artists on completion of the program. Admission is based on a jury of the artists’ visual arts portfolio.
Application deadline is Friday, June 26, 2020 and can be found at
www.artstart.us
This is a career training apprenticeship program and is especially beneficial for teens interested in art. It provides the opportunity to create public art that is placed throughout Sonoma County.
This year, professional artists guide
apprentice artists with an intensive one-on-one
mentorship. Through the process of meeting with clients, designing and creating the project, and installing the work.
Past installations can be seen all over Sonoma County including Dierk’s Midtown Café, mosaics and sculpture at Juilliard Park and Prince Memorial Greenway, painted storm drains in Railroad Square, and mural and mosaic bench at the Rohnert Park Senior Center.
