Supervisor Efren Carrillo and the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors supported the project. The Board gave Roger and David Commendations for their work at The Cedars in 2011. Policymakers who care about the environment are critical to achieving conservation outcomes. The Sonoma Land Trust provided support and resources for the project. Ralph Benson, Amy Chestnut, Joseph Kinyon,
and more staff and associates have recognized the importance of
The Cedars for Sonoma County. Sonoma Land Trust (SLT) is also responsible for producing The Cedars Conservation Plan (2009)
and The Cedars Conceptual Area Protection Plan (2012). They also administered the Moore Foundation grant to catalog and map the rst 30 years of Roger’s botanical work at The Cedars (2013).
The Main Canyon has been the site for many educational and recreational eld trips. Many of the researchers laid the groundwork for the permanent protection of the site. They include Roger Raiche from the UC Botanical Gardens and Planet Horticulture, Ivan
Barnes of the USGS, Robert Coleman of Stanford, Susan Harrison of UC Davis, Ken Nealson of USC, Gijs Kuenen of Delft University, Shino Ishi of the J. Craig Venter Institute and many more talented researchers. Their knowledge and observation skills have helped us to understand and value
the lands beyond their astounding physical beauty. Field trips including LandPaths, Independequeer, Unicorn Camp, Michael Ellis, and more have added depth to the unique limited recreational uses of the land.
