                                  Warm Up

               • Can you think of a few words that are related to the sea?

               • Have you seen fishers catch fish? What do you think their routine would be like?

                     About the Poet
Sarojini Naidu (1879–1949) was a great patriot, freedom fighter
and a poet of modern India. She studied in Chennai, London and
Cambridge. She is known as the ‘Nightingale of India’ because of
her contributions to poetry. Her poetry includes children’s poems,
nature poems, patriotic poems and poems of love and death. ‘Indian
Weavers’ and ‘The Golden Threshold’ are two of her famous works.

Let us read a poem about the lives of fishers in the Coromandel coast, which is the
coastal plain in the eastern part of southern India.

wakening dawn like a child that has cried all night.
