18 WAGGONER’S OR TRUCKER’S
HITCH
Widely used for lashing down loads on lorries, this Hitch gives a 2:1 purchase
without the use of blocks or other devices. It’s simple to form and falls apart
when the strain is taken off it.
The line is first passed through a strong eye or under a securing hook. Two
parallel bights are formed above the strong point, one upward and one
downward. The upward one is applied to the standing part and twisted as though
forming a Bowline so that the bight protrudes through a loop. The working end
is then passed through the other (downward) bight and tension is applied to
tighten the whole lashing.
