West Country Whipping
You can make this type of whipping at the end of a rope, or you can
add it to a place on the rope where you plan to make the cut, so that
you prevent the end from fraying.

1 Tie an Overhand Knot around the rope, leaving both ends of equal
length.

2 Shift the ends to the opposite side and tie another Overhand Knot.
Continue making knots, alternating sides, until you achieve a whip-
ping of the right length.

For variation, start the whipping with a Constrictor Knot and finish
with a Reef Knot (see Chapter 8) for added security.
