HCC is focused on investing in the future of our communities and therefore offers robust educa- tion and mentorship programming for youth and adults. In 2008, HCC created an education program to help learners of all ages develop skills to make them competitive in the workforce.
HCC partnered with two local schools to produce immersive, after-school programming to young adults: STEM@3PM and Prep for Success. Both programs work to support marginalized and at-risk youth in developing and strengthening their skills in areas where they tend to be underrepresented to enhance their employment prospects and economic livelihoods. STEM@3PM at PS 76 offers students grades 3-5 a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities, teaching them applicable skills and exposing them to a breadth of career options.
The various modules offered include coding, engineering, robotics and science. Prep for Success, based out of MS/PS 129, cultivates and inspires entrepreneurship amongst youth in grades 6-8 through academic support to ensure students thrive in school and through career-based activities includ- ing music production, fashion design, and cosmetol- ogy to foster creativity and innovation.
