ur Provincial Fr. Arun de Souza, once shared that the basics of commu-
Onication of concepts are taught in the Juniorate. It is this skill that has
helped him in the study and research later on in the universities. The West
zone Juniorate aims at this level of brief, precise and focused communication

skills of the different subjects and disciplines introduced in the Juniorate.
The writing skill is an important component of the communication
skills. The E - Magazine, ‘Young Minds’ is a medium for our juniors to
express themselves in academic, and creative writing skills. During the
first term, it was suggested to the juniors to explore possibilities of bring-
ing out an E – Magazine. We are glad that this suggestion has been con-
cretized into the release of the ‘Young Minds’. Congratulations to the ed-
itorial team, for their painstaking effort in this tedious task. We also
thank all the juniors for contributing in spite of their classes and the

study schedule. A word of thanks to Fr. Luke, Mr. Conon, Ms. Carroll,
Fr. Tony, for their messages of encouragement and the scholastics for
supporting and helping our juniors in the release of this E – Magazine.
Surely Juniorate is a time to assimilate the communication skills in En-
glish – (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing). This is the foundation to
the Jesuit formation later on. Besides the study in humanities, the juniors also
excel in oration – (homilies and speeches). The study of novel, dramas and poet-

ry enhances their English literary skills. The juniors are accompanied by their
spiritual fathers and are further nurtured with the graces received during the

novitiate. Many other social skills and soft skills are also introduced to them.

Juniorate is a jam-packed and well planned programme for nine months.
It’s a tribute to our juniors who have worked hard and expressed them-
selves in the production and release of the E – Magazine, ‘Young Minds’.
          Kudos to the editorial team.
          God bless you.
