if you are visiting during our festivals the float parade that starts at Public
and carnivals, be sure to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the amazing local food, dance to the pulse of the steel
pan and chill out with the locals and have some fun!
Pirate’s Week is a much-loved Cayman festivity that is held annually in November. Every year we are ‘invaded’ by pirates who ‘take over’ George Town for loads of swash-buckling fun. There’s a pulsating street parade complete with decorated floats, steel pan music and fancy costumes, a pirates’ ‘invasion’ staged in the George Town harbour of Hog Sty Bay, street food, music and dancing, as well as an amazing fireworks display. It’s a really great family event that’s appreciated every year. We also enjoy a celebration of our culture with
a special heritage day held in George Town that celebrates all the districts of Grand Cayman. The sister islands hold their own Pirates Week celebrations, so they don’t miss out on all the fun.
Batabano is held in late April (children’s festival) and May (adult Batabano) and is another lively festival with street parades and gorgeous costumes of carnival complete with head-dresses and feathers. Watch
Beach in West Bay wind its way down to George Town through the cheering crowds, a heady mix of colour, music, dance and fun! An interesting fact: ‘Batabano’ is actually the name of the tracks left in the sand by sea turtles as they crawl onto the beach to nest. In the Cayman Islands, if you found these tracks it was a cause of celebration!
CayMAS Carnival is a relative newcomer to the carnival scene and happens in May, another celebration of stunning costumes, music, fun and dance that includes a steel pan competition, Battle of the Soca Monarchs competition, fireworks, a street parade and lots more besides.
Cayfest is the Cayman Islands National Festival of the Arts and showcases local talent with a wide- ranging mix of visual arts, music, theatre, dance, fashion design and cultural discussions at venues all across the island. This exciting festival highlights local arts, artists and island culture.
Catch the fever and come and party with us!
