Mongrel – You Must Have a Bit to Succeed
I need to phrase this chapter carefully – as soon as you say ‘mongrel’, people think of being aggressive or dishonest.
Business is a hard arena to not only be successful in, but to also just survive. It is tough. There are so many failures. To be successful, unless you’re very lucky (e.g. selling a product the whole world wants!) you must be firm and apply some mongrel.
Mongrel is getting tough when people owe you money or are mucking you around. Mongrel is not being pushed around by people when you are the client. Mongrel is standing up to project managers who can tend to scream and push very hard.
For debt collection, I rolled out the ‘Rottweiler’. He was a lawyer who had the ‘mongrel’ and he was good at it.
