ensured that it all fitted onto one A4 page (I love this) and laminated it. I carried out some more training. Result: Queries to me dropped 80%. A simple (KIS) system (see Part 2: Chapter 2.2). It saved time and money; sped up the customer communication time, cut down noise and made more sales.
Here is another example: Around the time of discovering The E-Myth by Michael Gerber, we had entered the Christchurch market (March 1993). We carried out our first Home Show in late-1993 and only got thirty-three leads. It was a struggle. Then I wrote a show and mall system for generating leads. We advertised in the Christchurch Press for demonstrators and employed a couple of part-timers (paid when they worked) to follow the system and demonstrate in malls and shows. At the same show one year later, we got 130 leads. The difference was putting a system in place and getting an inexperienced person to follow it! Well, one ended up working for me for a couple of years, but it proves the power of systems.
Putting in place those initial systems made the business easier to scale up. We moved very fast in the early stages due to the systems I set up and which stood the test of time.
When I left my business, I left behind a laminated verse on the wall that a team member had written. It said: ‘Systemise the f... (let’s say hell) out of everything,’ by Paul Nielsen.
