WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL (WCC) - CONSOLIDATED AND UPGRADED SECURITY SYSTEMS
After years of operating six different security platforms, the WCC wanted to create a single system for all sites. Together we developed a five-year plan to migrate all sites onto a Gallagher system that would standardise their infrastructure.

Wellington is the home of the New Zealand Government, and boasts the third largest population in the country.
It is a widely-spread coastal city, and has a diverse range of facilities and attractions.
The WCC is responsible for securing and monitoring 150 sites across the city. In addition to securing their physical assets, they must protect around 1,800 employees who work at these sites – equating to approximately 4,000 card holders. As a result, the WCC has a uniquely broad and complex range of security needs.
The WCC is continually growing, so they believe in thinking smart when it comes to their security. With this in mind, they elected to take up a ten year software maintenance agreement with Red Wolf.
After years of operating six different security platforms, the WCC wanted to create a single system for all sites. Together we developed a five-year plan to migrate all sites onto a Gallagher system that would standardise their infrastructure. All their security elements are now on one platform, including: alarm management, fire systems, vehicle bollards, video surveillance, facility and carpark access, reporting, visitor management, and more.
Red Wolf also worked with the Bosch Video Management System, to secure the WCC’s range of independent sites through accurate and reliable surveillance. The WCC
now has over 400 cameras that provide live footage to their security teams. Not only are they able to continuously observe critical areas, but any site alarm that is triggered brings up a live video feed in their control room.
Staff can activate a quick response, and in the event of a crime provide crucial evidence to police. We also assisted them to boost employees’ on-site safety by integrating panic alarms, and elevators with access control to prohibit unauthorised entry.

With such a high number of staff and external contractors accessing their sites, lost keys were a common and very costly issue (replacement costs were approximately $4,000 each time). We assisted them to move from traditional key-based systems to electronic smart card technology. Now, instead of having to rekey an entire site, they can instantly deactivate lost cards – eliminating a significant expense and enhancing their ability to ensure site security. Their security personnel are also able assess and reprogram alarms remotely – saving on dispatching costs.
In addition they now have intelligent automation which means that as staff leave, their cardholder profiles are disabled in the system. Also, the visitor management solution means an appropriate staff member is notified when a visitor or contractor leaves without signing out or returning their card saving the security team time.
