Patient and family services
The team adapted well to the difficulties of COVID restrictions and offered phone, on-line, and face-to- face options to patients and families depending on what was possible.
The monthly Bereavement Coffee and Chat group continued to meet through COVID interruptions, moving to on-line, ensuring people in bereavement continued to receive supportive care.
The Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist successfully piloted a 5-week program to provide education to patients with palliative care needs with the tools to enhance occupational performance, reduce occupational deprivation and enable increased independence and safety when completing functional tasks. The program promotes and recognises that roles, routines and habits may require adapting to suit everchanging needs.
The Family Support Team was nominated and shortlisted for Ngā Tohu Angitu: Celebrating Success awards, recognising the creative and innovative way the team worked in the COVID lockdowns.
The Family Support Team was Involved in projects to support improving outcomes for Māori and Pasifica patients and whānau through Mauri Mate: Māori Palliative Care Framework and the Equity project.
Team Developments
The Occupational and Physio Therapists presented at the ANZSPM Aotearoa Trainee and New Fellow Day on potentials for Occupational and Physiotherapy.
Members of the team presented at the Changing Minds Conference on Art as a Healing Modality, Shadows of Grief, and the Power of Waiata.

SUPPORTING FAMILIES AND WHA– NAU
The Te Omanga Family Support Team, comprising Counsellors, Social Workers, Art and Music Therapists, Spiritual Carer, Occupational and Physio Therapists and Māori Liaison provided physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural and social support to people with a life-limiting condition and their whānau despite the challenges of COVID. This gave the team the opportunity to identify how to make the services more accessible generally to our patients and families.
