Forbury Side Elevation
We have developed a masterplan which creates a qual- ity public space that contributes to the existing urban charac- ter in the tradition of squares and public areas of Reading’s historic centre. The new Forbury Square, enclosed with two new building and Shire Hall, provides generous public space and becomes an extension to The Forbury Gardens.
One Forbury Square is one of the two office buildings commissioned by Argent. It is a high-quality office building with a distinct contemporary character. Conceptually it is five-sto- rey glass pavilion fronted with metal collonade and finished with metal projecting eaves. The whole pavilion is “inserted” into the four-storey masonry enclosure that directly address- es surrounding buildings. At the same time, glass elevation in- timately relates to the new square gradually negotiating scale with four-storey collonade and tall pergola at the ground floor level.
