Work all the tucked wires up and as close as possible to the thimble. Seize the
               area  to  prevent  the  wires  from  slipping  or  loosening  (see  page  127  for
               instructions). Complete another round of tucks. Again, seize your work to keep
               the wires in place. (Molly Mulhern)

                  In the next round of tucks, one wire will remain out, which accomplishes two
               things:  the  splice  will  begin  to  taper,  and  one  more  round  of  tucks  will  be
               completed. Complete the round of tucks, leaving the center wire (if there is one)
               out of the splice. Do the last round of tucks. Cut the wires close and pound the
               splice gently until you’re sure the cut ends don’t pop out.

                  Remove  the  seizing  and  check  to  see  that  the  individual  wire  ends  are  cut
               close.  It  might  be  necessary  to  smooth  them  further  with  a  grinder  or  a  side
               cutter.
                  Serve the spliced area tightly.
