World Dog Expo -
Breeder’s Showcase
By Carol Ann Klein
On June 10th & 11th, the Chow Chow
Club, Inc. (CCCI) was represented by many
Chowist and their Chows at the inaugural
World Dog Expo - Breeder’s Showcase at
the Meadowlands Complex in Edison, NJ.
The event was a collaborative effort of many
regional clubs. Our booth decorations and
backdrop were provided by the North Florida
Chow Chow Club (NFCCC) and the Chow
Chow Club of Greater New York (CCCGNY)
& we had members from the Southern Chow
Chow Club (SCCC), the New England Chow
Chow Club (NECCC), and the CCCGNY
staff the booth. A good variety of both adult
& puppy Chows including red, black, & cream
colors, as well as, both rough & smooth coated
were on hand to represent our breed.
Two sets of parents & offspring were in
attendance. Linda Albert's Quixote was
content to lay back and let his kids get
the attention. However, Gretchen, who
is a smooth, shared the spotlight with her
daughters who are roughs. This allowed Dan
Strachan & Tom Masog to educate spectators
that smooth coated Chows can be the
offspring of a rough coat. People were more
aware of the different coat colors than that
Chows had two types of coats. A few times
we were asked if the smooth Chows were
Shar Peis. Lew & Carol Klein had planned to
bring Tina, but she got a little too close to a
skunk. While it was a minor encounter, she
would not have been the best ambassador, at
that moment, for the breed and had to stay
home. We did have several other great Chow
ambassadors interacting with the crowd and
letting their owners share information on our
breed.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the
it a success — Linda Albert with Quixote &
Sunshine; Carol & Lew Klein; Chris & Laura
Matyas with Kuma, Chuck, & Tank; Tom
Masog & Dan Strachan with Reina, Gretchen,
Uma, & Bridget; and Nate Smith with Lucy,
Mr. Cooper, & Dante.
