Prudence will be remembered for many things within her
92 years, but her devotion and dedication to Chows is without
           precedence in our breed.
Prudence Crosby was born September 13, 1925. Her father was the
musician, Bob Crosby. She was graduated from Berkeley In 1949
and moved in social circles of her day. She was a fashion model,
a skier, and raced her Lotus car to the Ladies Championship In
Nassau in 1959. She also raced sail boats with her husband and was
a successful business woman, establishing a Sausalito antique shop,
specializing in art and restoration of antique trunks.

In the dog world, Prudence first showed a top winning Scottish
Deer Hound in 1968. Her Passion for chows started in the early
1970’s, and Tamarin Kennel was established with foundation dogs
from top breeders of that day including the Edgerton’s in England.
Tamarin Chows are in many Pedigrees of top winning show dogs
today. Prudence with her determination, along with others, to have
the Smooth Chow accepted in the standard is a legacy in the breed.
Prudence served on the CCCI board in the early 1980’s, was specialty
chair, Obedience chair, founding member of Redwood Coast Chow
Chow Club where she served in all positions, and focused her
energy on Chow Welfare, establishing Northern California Chow
Rescue with its mission devoted to caring for and placing unwanted
           chows in loving homes.

Prudence consistently produced and showed Chows in the Top
Ten rankings. One of her favorite, CH Tamarin Midnight Idol was
the only Black Supreme chow to that date. CH. Velvet Moose was
another favorite top winning dog. CH Hung Jai Lin Fa UD was the
first obedience UD in breed history. Prudence was asked by DR.
Sam Draper to contribute a section on Obedience in his Book of
The Chow, for which she felt very honored.

Prudence devoted her life and resources to her chows, always
promoting the alert active chow called for in the standard.
