Why YOUR Vote Counts!

On March 6th, the primary elections will determine the Republican and Democratic candidates
in the general election in November. Texas and San Antonio in particular, have a high number
of prominent open races coming up. We have eight Texans in the United States House of
Representatives who will not run for re-election, including our long-time friend and supporter,
                                        Congressman Lamar Smith.
There are even more elected officials in the Texas Legislature who have announced that they
will not run for re-election to include Speaker of the House, Joe Straus who represents District 121
in San Antonio. Speaker Straus was first elected to the House of Representatives in February
of 2005 and has served five terms as the Speaker of the House. He was named ‘Texan of the
Year’ by the Dallas Morning News in December of 2017, an honor very much deserved. He will
be missed, and we are grateful for all Speaker Straus has done for San Antonio and the State
                                        of Texas.
Bryan Smith During the 2018 Texas Primary Election, voters will have the opportunity to vote for 3 Texas Supreme
President Court Justices, Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller of Public Accounts, Land
Commissioner, Railroad Commissioner, and 3 justices from the Texas Third District Court of Appeals.
In addition to these important races, all 150 seats in the Texas House of Representatives are up for re-election. The open primary is
March 6th, the primary run-off election is May 22nd and the general election is November 6th. In the Texas Senate, a total of 15 seats
out of 31 are up for re-election.
The Texas Association of Builders (TAB) recently published a TAB Voter Guide for the 2018 Texas Primary Election that will give insight
into the incumbents and candidates who are pro-business and pro-housing. Take a minute to see who HOMEPAC supported. There
is a link to the TAB Voter Guide below. HOMEPAC is the registered non-partisan political action committee of TAB.
