• The accused puts his or her character in issue; Evidence of bad character may be admitted
at common law;
The previous convictions of a witness, other than the accused, may be admitted as evidence on
cross-examination in some cases. The cross-examiner may call evidence to prove the conviction
if the witness:
a. denies having been so convicted;
b. does not admit a conviction; or
c. refuses to answer.
Grenada
Good Character
In criminal proceedings the fact that the person accused is of good character is relevant. 212
Bad Character
The fact that an accused has a bad character is irrelevant except where evidence has been given
that he has a good character. This section does not apply where the bad character is itself an
issue. A previous conviction is relevant as evidence of bad character. 213
Guyana
The fact that a person is of a particular character is inadmissible in evidence on any inquiry
respecting his conduct except in the cases hereinafter mentioned:
