Pile hitch

Tie this simple but effective hitch in a bight made by doubling the end of a rope or cord, in a

pre-formed eye or loop, or in a bight obtained from the standing part of the line.

Wrap the bight once around the pile or post (1, 2), then simply loop it over the end (3) and draw it
up tight (4). When using a rope’s end, the standing part of the line should be underneath (that is,
further from the retaining loop than the working end), because that way the knot is more reliable.
