Modified clinch knot
This is the preferred knot for attaching artificial lures to monofilament line in most freshwater
fishing for medium-sized fish in lakes and rivers. It is used with spin-fishing gear and is easy to
tie. It leaves a straight hitch to the eye of the lure to reduce unwanted spinning on the surface
and underwater. Like most fishing knots, it is not intended to be untied, because it is far easier
to clip the knot off and retie.
Begin by running about 1 ft (30 cm) of line through the eye of the lure (1). Make at least four
wraps around the standing line, working away from the eye (2). Bring the working end back
through the loop attachment to the eye (3). Then bring the end back down under the last wrap,
next to the standing line and the wraps (4). This is what makes this a “modified” clinch. Be sure to
moisten the line, and pull both ends to tighten (5). Cinch the wraps closely against the eye to finish
(6).
