Slide-and-grip hitch (center-loaded)







  See the end-loaded version of this hitch (page 244) to obtain the basic idea of how to tie these

  webbing holdfasts. The powerful grip of this center-loaded sibling withstands a loaded pull
  from either direction, but may easily be shifted either way by hand, as explained opposite.


  Use an endless webbing strop, with the ends sewn together (not knotted). Begin at the top to make
  the over-under-over wrapping sequence (1, 2, 3). See how a mirror-image plait is created (from the

  bottom up). Arrange the complete layout so that the two end bights meet in the middle, and secure
  them with a shackle or carabiner to which the load can be attached (4).
