President’s Message

It is that time of the year again which every Bengali awaits with bated
breath, the time to celebrate ourselves and our life so far during the year.
Yes, it is the time for Durga Pujo when Bengalis all over the world
welcome Ma Durga with her family in our lives and communities.

We know every year Ma and her family chooses a special means to make
her arduous journey from the Holy mountains of Kailash, sometimes it’s a
horse other times elephant and some other years it’s a boat. We attach
special meaning to each of these based on the probable weather or
environment as predicted in the Bengali “পলাঁিজ”. This year it is being said
Ma Durga is arriving in “পল িা” and departing in “স ৌোাল”.

This year is somewhat different due to the ongoing COVID pandemic and keeping safety as well as
restrictions around social gatherings in mind, COBCA has decided to organize the celebration of 32nd
Durga pujo entirely online. We are performing the pujo at Bhartiya Hindu temple Columbus, which will
be live streamed to our homes and prasad will be distributed afterward. During the two days of
celebration, we will also have online programs showcasing performances by our COBCA community
members as well as performances by external artists from Bengal. Although, nothing can replace the
socialization that happens during the regular pujo, the quintessential “ঙলঙলি গল্প আড্ডল”, “েলজ
সগলজ”, the “সপট পুোজল”, we have tried to give everyone a flavor of our unique ঙলঙলি ঐিিহ্য আা সোিল

ািলনল আা সালা ত্বা মোযে সাটু ালিে স লটলঙলা প্রোাষ্টল. Additionally, this will provide some financial
help to the various supporting hands who assist the main artists through instruments, recording etc.
many of whom are out of work due to the pandemic.

We appreciate all volunteers and community members who provided their support for this year’s pujo
through various pujo arrangements, program participation / editing and sponsorship. Without their
time, effort and generous contributions this event wouldn’t have been possible during such trying
times.
