CHAPTER 1: Using Devices With Confidence
TRY IT YOURSELF: MAKE A VIDEO CALL ON AN APPLE DEVICE
The beauty of today’s phones is the ability to see who you are talking to! Not only that, you can see what they are seeing. You can watch your granddaughter take her first steps or play in her first basketball game. From your home, you can go shopping for a couch with your son in the store, using the camera on his phone. There are many different ways to make a video call, and you’re sure to find one that works for you. As with most things,
the more you try it, the easier it will get. With video calls, it's best to plan the call with the recipient ahead of time so as not to catch folks unaware.
BEFORE YOU GET STARTED
Most Apple computers and phones produced in the last 10 years or so can make FaceTime video calls. To make a call, you must:
 Be connected to the internet.
 Be signed in to FaceTime with your Apple ID. If you don’t have an
Apple ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com/ to sign up for one for free.
 Have a built-in or connected microphone, and a built-in or connected
camera.
 Be calling someone who also has FaceTime installed on their device.
