MISSION STATEMENT
St John’s D.S.G. is an Anglican School in Pietermaritzburg open to girls from Grade RR to Grade 12.
At St John’s D.S.G. we celebrate and nurture spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical potential.
This enables us to engage with the complexities of, and contribute meaningfully to our immediate and broader environment with integrity, insight and compassion.
OUR VALUES
By speaking sincerely and acting ethically, we show integrity.
By respecting and understanding the difficulties and concerns of others, and supporting them, we demonstrate empathy.
By engaging in everything we do with interest and enjoyment, we demonstrate our enthusiasm.
By responding to challenges with determination and courage, we illustrate our belief that they provide opportunities for growth.
By reflecting on our own actions and by using opportunities to motivate, encourage and guide others, we uphold the value of leadership.
SCHOOL STRUCTURE
The school has a Board of Governors, to whom the Principal and Business Manager report on a termly basis. However, the Board charges the Principal with the full responsibility of the management of the school and does not become involved in the day-to-day issues. The Senior School Academic Management Committee consists of the Principal, Deputy Principal, two Heads of Department and two Heads of Grades. The Chairlady of the Board of Governors is Mrs Deborah Khan.
PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION
The St John’s D.S.G. Parents’ Association’s basic role is fund-raising for “niceties” at the school and to support the school by arranging functions to engender an atmosphere
of camaraderie amongst the parents. The 100 Club is a voluntary social part of the parent structure who meet once a term for a relaxing meal and evening of socialising.
