was not present. If your daughter is a boarder who is missing academic time for an appointment, please do not make this request from the Head of Boarding.
Once permission has been granted, your daughter will be issued with a “Permission Slip” by the Front Office. It is your daughter’s responsibility to have this form signed by the subject teachers whose classes she will be missing. It is also to be signed by her Form Teacher and the Head of Boarding (if she is a border). The completed form must be returned to the Front Office before you take your daughter off the property. Your daughter will then be issued with an EXIT CARD, which will be handed in to the Security Guard at the gate to allow her to leave the premises. Day scholars must sign out at the Front Office (in the Signing out book) and boarders in the Boarding Establishment.
Your daughter must report to the Front Office on her return to school. Day scholars and boarders must sign back in – day scholars at the Front Office and boarders in the Boarding Establishment. For boarders, parents must sign their daughter’s out of and back in to the Boarding Establishment.
For boarders: if school transport is required for an appointment during academic time, permission must first be granted by the relevant Grade Head for the appointment. Transport may then be arranged through the Clinic Sisters or through the Transport Department. Please note that depending on the transport commitments for the day, the school may not have a vehicle available to take your daughter to her appointment.
UNIFORM
The St John’s D.S.G. uniform should be worn with pride!
Please ensure ALL items of uniform are very clearly labelled. If you have purchased second-hand uniform, please remove the previous owner’s name.
Girls may not eat or drink in public, unless they are sitting down at a restaurant. Adornment related to traditional cultural or religious ceremonies/celebrations may only be worn at school if written permission is requested in advance from the relevant Grade Head. These must remain covered by the school uniform, e.g. crosses on chains, isiphandla, red string kalava, henna.
The basher is worn with summer and winter uniform, but not with the Grades 10 – 12 suit. White dresses are worn on special school occasions only. Advance notice will be given to the girls.
Only gold or silver studs for pierced ears may be worn in the bottom hole of the ear lobe. No make-up or nail varnish is permitted. Hair: changes to the natural colour of the hair is
