entering a pond or stream are extremely important and could be

                          4. The well trucks can do damage to finished landscaping if done later in
                              the project.

                   • Windows and doors. Windows and doors would typically be ordered very
early into the project because it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for them to be
delivered. This will allow the carpenters to frame the walls, and roof
system, and if timed right, the windows will show up right when they can

                       be installed.
                   • Framing. Framing of exterior walls, interior support walls, and floor systems
can now begin. Whether it’s a conventionally framed house or a real log
home, the structure of the home must be completed, and the roof must be
weather tight before the remainder of the job can proceed. Under some

circumstances masonry can begin before the roof is on, but plumbing, heat,
                       and electrical must wait.
                   • Interior framing. All interior walls and stairs should now be completed
                   • Subcontractor rough in. The subcontractors can now begin their rough in.
It’s common for the plumbers to start first, then the heat and finally the
electricians. Your builder needs to keep in mind the future needs for each
sub and convey to them where it’s acceptable to run pipes or wires.

Plumbing is usually first because it’s difficult to bend PVC pipes around
areas that already have heat pipes or wires. It’s much easier to move wires
around pipes. The carpenters usually move back outside while the subs
take over the inside. Carpenters can install windows, doors, exterior trim,
                       decks, porches, and siding.
                   • Insulation. Once all the plumbing, heat, electrical, and any other items such

as dryer vents are installed in the walls and ceilings, the insulation can be
installed. Minimal expansion spray foam is recommended for around
windows and doors for a great seal, and we typically install dense packed
cellulose which is treated with boric acid in the walls and ceilings. The boric
acid works great because insects can’t live in it and rodents don’t like it.
Another option is spray foam which also creates a tight barrier in the walls.
                   • Exterior or interior. This is where some juggling of tasks usually takes place.
If possible, it’s a good idea to finish 100% of the exterior of the home

before the carpenters move back inside. This ensures that the weather
doesn’t do any damage to the home. On occasion, it may work better to
