Chapter 1 - Locating and Transferring Information
from Website to Word Processor
In year two we learnt about Educational Software and Websites such as
Encarta, Wikipedia and Grolier. The problem of most of these educational
software and websites are that they require internet and internet. Hence the need
for students to make a copy of the information available offline by copying and
pasting, and saving the information with a Word Processor such as MS-Word.
Transferring Information from Website to Word Processor
Just as information can be transferred (copied and pasted) from one document to
another, so can information be transferred from a website to a word processor to
create a document that can be used without internet (offline). This process
involves four stages. Which are:
Locating the information in the internet
Copying the information from the location (webpage).
Pasting the information onto a word processor (e.g. MS-Word); and
then
Saving the document (e.g. desktop, document folder, etc.)
Locate Information on the Internet
There are many ways to locate information on the Internet. Some of which are:
1. Typing the website address in the address bar.
2. Using the search engines. E.g. google
3. Clicking a link in the currently visible page.
4. Choose a website address from a list of sites you have visited before.
5. Use the Back and Forward buttons on the toolbar to return to a site
you have recently visited.
The commonest and what we will be using in this lesson to locate information in
the internet is, typing the website address in the address bar or using the
search engines. To do this:
1. Launch a browser e.g. chrome.
2. Type the search engine (website address) e.g. http://www.google.com
in the address bar.
