NOTICE OF NONDISCRIMINATION AND GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES
Notice of Nondiscrimination
The Hinds County School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex,
disability, religion or age in the admission to and provision of educational programs, activities and
services or employment opportunities and benefits. The following office has been designated to handle
inquiries and complaints regarding the non-discrimination policies of the district:

Grievance/Complaint Procedures
Student Complaints and Grievances
HCSD Policy JCE acknowledges that students should have some means to express their concerns and that
their concerns will be considered and handles with fairness. Student complaints shall be resolved in an
orderly process, at the lowest level:
1. The student or his/her parent has the opportunity to discuss with a currently employed teacher a
decision or situation, which the student considers unjust or unfair.
2. If the matter remains unresolved, the student or his/her parents may bring the concern to the building
principal.
3. If the principal’s action does not resolve the matter, the student or his/her parents may be brought to
the Associate Superintendent Community Relations for consideration.
4. Should the complaint remain unresolved, it may be referred in writing to the school board.
Title I Complaint Resolution/Complaints About Instructional Materials – Policy KN
The following procedures will be followed if a complaint concerning TITLE I is received by the Hinds
County School District:
Record initiated - Within five (5) days of receipt of a written complaint, or an appeal from a person or
persons against the operation of TITLE I at the local level, the local TITLE I office will acknowledge
receipt of the complaint in writing. All written complaints must include signature and address of the
complainant.
Within ten (10) working days of the acknowledgment of the complaint, the complainant will be afforded
an opportunity for an informal hearing with representatives of the local TITLE I office at which time oral
and written testimony may be taken.
1. Failure to resolve the complaint in an informal setting will necessitate a formal hearing on the
matter. The complainant will be advised on the right to request in writing a formal hearing. The
complainant will have fifteen (15) days from the date of the informal hearing to make a written
