 July 23
Chad Schuermyer
The Puppeteer Makes a Visit to Lifelong Learning
Chad Schuermeyer will show and explain his craft, not only for us grandparents, but also our grandchildren and their parents. Everyone is invited. Chad is the son of an SCCL resident.
In Chad’s own words:
“I’m an elementary school drama teacher. In drama class the kids learn everything from puppetry, character creation, improvisation, directing, acting, and playwriting. My students have received awards from the North Carolina Theatre Arts Educators Association for outstanding playwriting three years in a row.
“What I’m bringing in July is for
the entire family. There will be
an interactive puppet show and
a demonstration of the different
types of puppets throughout
history. Learn about Shadow
Puppets, Rod Puppets, Glove
Puppets, and Marionettes. Learn
about some puppet characters
throughout history, like Pulcinella
and Joan (Punch and Judy).
After the demonstration, kids
(and kids at heart) will have the
opportunity to try their hand at a variety of puppets.”
After the program, there will be cookies, and everyone can make their own puppet to take home. If we have a pleasant evening, we will use the pavilion at the Lodge. Come learn a little about puppets. Have something you can take home to entertain your friends.
July 30
Artists from The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra
Our final program before the August break will be presented by special guests representing the CSO. Details were not available at the Living magazine deadline, so please watch your email messages about LLL in July for more detailed information.
Following the program, all are invited to join us for our annual Ice Cream Social that will be held at The Lodge
Pavilion.
