 Yule Cat
Some of the best Icelandic folklore tales are their Christmas ones. My two favorite Icelandic Christmas characters have an appetite for children.
The Yule Cat (Jólakötturinn) is a hefty sized, threatening black cat that eats Icelandic children who do not get any new clothes for Christmas.
What a great idea for getting kids excited about new socks!

Headmaster Magnus arrived.
He had a nicely groomed white beard. I thought, ‘If he let it get longer, he could go for a Santa-like look.’ Magnus is truly one of the most passionate people I've ever met. He thoroughly and truly believes in elves, trolls, and all the folkloric beings of Iceland.
He's dedicated his life to collecting all of the hidden people books, art, statues, etc. that he can get his hands on.
Magnus founded the Elf school, and solely accumulates all the personal encounter stories he can. He spent over three hours telling us stories straight from his heart. He used no notes, and there was no particular order. It was fascinating – some people might think it was too silly, but I enjoyed the entertainment.
