STUDENTS ARE THE WINNERS OF THE LEARNING FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNAMENT - $61,675
RAISED FOR THE STUDENT EMERGENCY FUND.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MONDAY, JULY 8, 2024
The analogy of a village raising a child is a fitting way to describe last week’s golf tournament for the HPELF. July 4, 2024, was
an incredible day for The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation (HPELF). The annual golf tournament, sponsored
by Ekort Realty and held at Trillium Wood Golf Course, welcomed 144 golfers to the sold out event. Despite the heat, it was a
day enjoyed by all participants, sponsors, staff, students, and volunteers who together raised an incredible $61,675 for the
Student Emergency Fund!
“We had a great day!”, said Kellie Brace, Executive Director of HPELF. “It was hot and sunny but more importantly it was a
day where the community came together to support students at times when they need it most. As needs continue to grow,
we are grateful to know that these funds will be available to help students overcome barriers throughout the upcoming school
year. Thank you to everyone involved.”
The HPELF golf tournament is a fundraiser for the Student Emergency Fund, which is a program that provides immediate
support to student with crisis or emergency situations, so that they can continue to learn without interruptions. The Student
Emergency Fund responds to requests from school administrators who have identified a student’s need that may be creating
an obstacle for their success in school. Common examples are food insecurity, eyeglasses, medical supplies, shoes or
clothing. By providing these basic needs, local students can continue to thrive.
This past school year, the Student Emergency Fund benefited 445 students with such requests. The funds raised will be used
to respond to student needs for the 2024-2025 school year. “The Golf Tournament Committee was ecstatic by the outcome.
The tournament was a huge success! It was wonderful to see so many local businesses get involved through both sponsorship
and giving of their time by participating in the event. It’s a real testament to our communities ongoing commitment and
support of helping students in need. said Eric Fetterly, Director on HPELF Board and Chair of the Golf Tournament
Committee. A huge thank you goes out to the tournament’s sponsors, donors, and volunteers who helped to raise funds for
this much needed program. To help local students overcome barriers, you can make a donation to the Student Emergency
