WOW, A SMALL GESTURE TURNS INTO A BIG WIN FOR 19 SCHOOLS.
The Madoc Lions volunteer at our local school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the
Breakfast Program . On average we toast up 100 bagels with butter or cream cheese
along with apples, a small milk. Jane Bonter, Central Hastings School Food For
Learning Program co-ordinator indicated that the program was lacking in the Dairy
      Group protein, cheese.
On behalf of the Madoc Lions Tom Simpson visited the local factory in Belleville,
Black Diamond Cheese. With a little pitch on the importance of cheese at the
schools and how the Madoc Lions help. Tom quickly got the support of Dallas Ohl
of the Human Resources Business Partner Department. The first day we were
surprised to receive 500 cheese bars for Central Hastings School (Madoc) with a
promise from Dallas to review my request and get back to me.
Wow, it is Black Diamonds 90th Anniversary and a such, Dallas was able to acquire 90 cases (12,960) Cheese String sticks.
So it was decided to involve Cherie Hardie from Food for Learning Student Nutrition Ontario – Southeast Procurement &
Logistics Coordinator. All 19 schools in the district would be eligible to receive a portion of the 12,960 Cheese Strings.
December 5, 2023 was pick up day for Central Hastings School and Madoc Township School cheese donation.
Congratulations Black Diamond Cheese (Lactalis Canada) on your 90th Anniversary and a special thanks for your donation

      LOOK BACK: Centre Hastings
Belleville, ON, Canada / Quinte News Written by: Alan-Michael Steele Dec 19, 2023
Centre Hastings has worked hard in 2023 to expand its long-term care options and housing, and those efforts are bearing
      fruit.
Centre Hastings Mayor Tom Deline said that he and his staff worked hard to secure funding for the construction of a new
120-bed long-term care home in the community. “Staff has worked very hard on that,” said Deline. “It’ll be all one floor,
which is a great thing if you have an emergency. It’ll employ a good number of people.”
With the funding secure, the care home is expected to open in 2025. The focus wasn’t just on expanding available long-
term care beds, as work was also done to grow the housing stock in the community. Mayor Deline said they had applied
for federal funding to support a major housing development. “If we get it, it will allow us over the next number of years,
and I would say seven, eight years, to increase our housing stock by about 550 units, which is very good,” said Mayor
      Deline.
The funds are planned to be used for preparation work before the main development of the new homes.

November 26th 2023 the COPE staff took a group to an NHL Alumni Hockey Game at
the CAA Arena where they played against the police. We had awesome seats from
tickets donated by Colleen Gear. There was awesome food that we got to eat while
                                      watching the game.
The best things about it was hanging out with my friends watching the game that they
won. It was neat to watch them practice before the game and watch how fast they
skated. The goalies saved a lot of goals but in the end the NHL players won. We would
all like to thank Colleen again for the tickets! We all had an awesome time!
