Dr. Jim's Computer Repair TECH TALK
Jim Sanders
Welcome to tech talk. Email applications now there is a real stumper and the bode of much frustration to the average
user. Those that have been using computers for a while would be familiar with Outlook Express, Microsoft Mail (now the
new Outlook Mail) Hotmail, yahoo mail and so on. If you are running a business, you probably use Microsoft Outlook,
which has its own quirks to contend with. All internet providers provide email addresses for their clients and this can be
a good thing until you change your internet provider and no longer have access to that email account. For those that
wish to avoid that you can sign up with Outlook Live or Gmail and so on. If you have an email account with your internet
provider it may be a good idea to have a secondary email account with one of the web-based email providers. Always
anticipate the day when email is not working correctly, it happens. First rule of thumb, if it worked yesterday and you
have not made any changes on your system, in all likelihood its your email provider or internet provider that is the issue.
If you are able to surf the internet then your email provider may be having an issue. Make that call to your provider to
see if they are having issues or have changed their email servers (which may require you making setting changes on your
system); they can and should assist with helping you make these changes. Also always make sure your backup phone
number or secondary email address are up-to-date, (ways to access your account if you forget your password).Gaining
access to an account where you have forgotten your password is almost impossible without that backup connection. I
see this frequently with customers purchasing new systems on a regular basis.
As always if you have a question please ask and if you have a topic you would like me to explore please let me know.
Until next time.
