PE Why should you be considered?
At age 13, I made the leap and became an entrepreneur. Using my own personal savings as capital, I purchased my first goats and farm equipment. It was a small start but it was a start. Those first two goats that I purchased would eventually grow into a farm of over 60
R animals. I later added sheep and livestock guardian dogs in an effort to diversify my market and better utilize my resources.
Running a business has been a challenge at times, but I have never given up, and don’t plan to. Staying in the black financially has sometimes been hard and I have had to make hard choices in order to keep the farm profitable. I have learned how to successfully market my products and connect with customers by designing my own website, managing social media, and using online sales networks. I am now able to connect with customers from all over the United States who want to purchase the wide variety of products I am able to produce, including live animals, fleeces, wool, hides, skulls, felted art, and woven art. Learning to capitalize on parts of the animal that other farmers would waste has helped my business to stay profitable.
Being a farmer has given me the opportunity to gain a vast diversity of skills that can be applied to any future business venture or to the continuing success of my current one. From basic business skills like balancing a budget, and keeping financial records, I have also gained more specialized skills in website building and management, public relations, marketing, advertising, and communication.
U I enjoy the excitement of making a good sale and providing a quality product or service that people need or desire. Often my customer service continues long after the initial sale as I assist new animal owners in properly caring for their animals.
R Being an entrepreneur has made me who I am today and what I will be tomorrow.
