How we have fun and show our appreciation...
Part of what makes HLA so great are staff events that we havethroughouttheyear. Whilethereareseveralofficial staff events like the Company-wide Staff Meeting and the Christmas Party, we have many that are unofficial and fun.
We are always looking for a reason to celebrate or take-a- break.
August Lunches
Kicking off the school year each season are the “August Lunches” which are not really now completely in August since we moved the enrollment date to August 1 several years ago. BUT the name has always stuck with the staff and they look forward to it every year. It began back in 2012 when David and April were not working daily in the office and would come by to visit and see everyone so hard and for so long during the August enrollments. They decided to start bringing lunches for the staff each week during the month. They would labor and make wonderful meals for everyone. This tradition has continued ever since then and while we start them in July now, August Lunches will always be a staff favorite.
Spirit Week
Next is HLA Spirit Week which is combined with the Back2School Bash Campaign in September of each year. Spirit Week is a fun time to show school spirit with cookouts, coffee and costume days like Super Heroes and Pajama Day.
Company-Wide Staff Meeting
In November each year is the Company-wide Staff Meeting. This is the only mandatory meeting/event that we have at HLA. It’s a wonderful time to see everyone face to face, to fellowship and to cover business topics, updates and recaps of the year. It’s an all- day event, so be prepared to stay awhile and to enjoy April’s Famous Bread Pudding!
Turkey Tuesday
Also in November, we have Turkey Tuesday! This is our HLA Family Thanksgiving Dinner. It falls on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving where we enjoy a wonderful potluck meal together, share stories and celebrate how thankful we are for HLA, our families, and each other.
Christmas Party
In December, we have our Annual HLA Christmas Party. We have tried different venues and ideas throughout the years, but everyone's most mentioned and best parties have been those close to home with fellowship and potluck, games and fun. Home is truly where the heart is with HLA and this event has become one of those near and dear traditions to uphold.
Tinsel Tuesday
Also in December is Tinsel Tuesday. This is our HLA Family Christmas. Those who come to this event often exchange gifts with each other on this day and sit down to a meal right before our Christmas break.
Family Night
In February, we have a surprise staff event. We try to do something fun and different each year. In times past, this has been a Game Night but usually will include or encourage some type of team building activities.
Company-Wide Family Picnic
In the Spring each year, we have our Company-wide Family Picnic. This event is for all staff, instructors, and board members and their
families to come and get to know one another, enjoy games and kite-flying and eat good food. This serves as a kick-off to busy season!
And in between all these fun and wonderful events are Starbucks and Sonic runs, bridal and baby showers, staff-inspired and prepared meals, cookouts and more! We really are spoiled around here ;)
